In order to play a Shaman class, any talent becomes required that talent should be changed into a base ability. We all know that Shamans have several abilities that are considered "core" or "required" for them.
A resto Shaman without mana tide is like a Warrior without a shield. We have been begging for Mana Tide to be trainable for literally and we've never seen a reasonable explanation as to why this totem remains not only a deep talent, but one which requires specific earlier talents.
It was great to get the chance at an instant cast ghost wolf, but that quite frankly is not enough. Every other class either has an innate instant cast travel form, has a teleporting ability that is also instant cast, can pull enemies to them, or can prevent themselves from being snared. All of these abilities that the other classes have are innately instant. Only ghost wolf requires two talent points to be as effective as what every other class gets for free.
Take Parry seriously. It's freaking Parry. And it doesn't benefit from +defense gear or +parry gear. And it requires 20 points in enhancement before you can even get it.
Maybe +6% intellects for 3 talent points was in the elemental tree, it might make sense, but to an enhancement shaman you're talking about 18 intellect. The only enhancement stat that INT affects is +AP, and that's only if the shaman has 3 points invented in a completely separate talent. That means that for a grand total of six talent points the Shaman sees a benefit of +18 AP from the + intellect talent.
Totem of Wrath shares the same totem slot as Flamtongue totem and provides almost the same buff, just for 51 talent points. In order to benefit from the +crit effect, you have to place the totem within range of your target. That would be fine if your target was in a fixed position, but in 90% of the raids we see, the bosses move. What's more is that there is no way to know, prior to dropping the totem, if your target is even close enough to it.
The entire resto tree lacks focus and creativity, and it lacks fun. You stand still and heal the same single target over and over. There's no instant heals to help in arenas, there's barely a HoT but it isn't predictable, and the shield - though admittedly non-functional - just seems bad. You're making chain heal less desirable to use as a healing ability and then you're making other talents split the damage among more than one target.
Speaking of talent trees, ours have little to no synergy at all, and all three are bloated heavily in the lower levels. No one likes having to be a cookie-cutter spec. It's boring and bland.
If things do not change for Shamans before Wrath of the Lich King goes live, we are definitely re-rolling Death Knight because they have talent trees that contain no "filler" or useless talents, can spec DPS or tank in a multitude of effective ways, and suffer from none of the issues that we have mentioned above.
Before you ask, we want a massive overhaul of the Shaman class. We want to see talents mixed up around the trees so that we will play our class while using more than two basic abilities.
